Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Mainland Premier League continued yesterday with Mbeya City and Dodoma Jiji playing out a 1–1 draw in a match staged at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
Following the draw, Dodoma Jiji moved up to eighth place on the league table with 14 points, while Mbeya City remained in 13th position with 10 points so far this season.
Dodoma Jiji took an early lead in the 10th minute through their striker William Edgar, who found the back of the net after a well-constructed attacking move.
Mbeya City responded strongly, making good use of their home advantage by creating several attacking opportunities, while Dodoma Jiji remained solid in defence.
In the 24th minute, Mbeya City forward Yacouba Songne had a clear chance on goal, but his effort was safely saved by Dodoma Jiji goalkeeper, Ally Salim.
Dodoma Jiji also threatened in the 34th minute when Faraji Kayanda found space inside the box, but his attempt failed to increase the visitors’ lead.
Mbeya City eventually equalised before halftime through Eliud Ambokile, who headed in from a corner kick delivered by Baraka Maranyingi, bringing the score to 1–1. The match went into the halftime break with the teams level.
In the second half, Dodoma Jiji made a triple substitution in an effort to gain control of the game. Both sides continued to press for a winning goal, but neither team managed to find a break through.
Five minutes of added time were played, yet the score remained unchanged as the referee blew the final whistle, with both teams settling for a point apiece.
At the top of the table, JKT Tanzania currently lead the league with 24 points from 14 matches, while Young Africans sit second with 22 points from eight matches, having been involved in international competitions.
Mtibwa Sugar are third with 20 points, followed by Namungo FC in fourth place with 18 points
. The league action continues tomorrow as Fountain Gate FC host Namungo FC at Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Manyara region.A
