Africa-Press – Tanzania. VICTOR Mhagama, the son of the late Peramiho Member of Parliament from Ruvuma Region, Jenista Mhagama, has emerged the winner of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party primaries to vie for the parliamentary seat in the constituency.
The primaries are part of the process toward a by-election scheduled to take place on February 26, 2026, aimed at filling the vacancy left by the late Jenista Mhagama, who passed away on December 11, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma after suffering from a heart condition.
Victor Mhagama, who has expressed his intention to follow in his mother’s footsteps in serving the people of Peramiho, was among 27 CCM cadres who picked nomination forms seeking the party’s endorsement to contest in the by-election.
The primary election process was conducted on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, during which CCM Songea Rural District organized voting in 16 wards of the Peramiho constituency, with Victor leading by securing the highest number of votes.
Announcing the results at 11:00 p.m., the CCM Songea Rural District Election Director, Juma Nambaila, said a total of 9,167 votes were cast, of which 590 were invalid, leaving 8,577 valid votes.
According to the results, Victor Mhagama obtained 3,040 votes, followed by Getrude Haule with 2,913 votes and Dr. Joseph Mhagama with 943 votes. Other candidates and their votes were Frank Matola (215), Dr. Lazaro Kiomba (213), Dr. Damas Mapunda (200), and Isabellah Mwampamba (131).
