Africa-Press – Tanzania. MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has urged Tanzanians living in China ‘Diaspora’ to seize opportunities, particularly by increasing exports and sales of Tanzanian goods and services in China.
Ambassador Kombo was speaking recently during a meeting with Diasporas in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province as part of his official visit to China. He said following Beijing’s announcement of dutyfree that allows all African goods including Tanzania’s to enter into China, it’s the special preference to the country’s products regarding the existing strategic partnership.
“Take action to seize this opportunity and continue to encourage Tanzanians to export more products to China to balance our trade,” said Amb Kombo.
He also encouraged them to support government efforts by bringing in reputable investors, which would help create jobs and stimulate economic activities in the country.
He said that can be achieved through partnerships between Chinese and Tanzanian businesses to meet investment criteria in relevant sectors.
Furthermore, the Minster advised them to adhere to Chinese laws and regulations and to avoid actions that could tarnish the positive image of their country, urging them to continue being good ambassadors for Tanzania in China.
On his part, the Chairman of Tanzanians living in Guangdong, Hashim Shelali, expressed gratitude to the government for its ongoing support through the Tanzanian Embassy in Beijing and the Guangzhou consulate.
He said that they will continue to participate in development activities to enhance their income and contribute to the national economy, as well as engage in decision-making processes, including voting in the upcoming general elections scheduled for October 2025.
Meanwhile, Minister Kombo held discussions with staff at the Tanzanian Consulate in Guangzhou, and commended them for fulfilling their representation duties and implementing the economic diplomacy as stipulated by the revised Foreign Policy.
He informed the staff that they are in a strategically important country for cooperation with Tanzania in the areas of trade and investment, which are fundamental to driving economic reform.
