Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed ministers and their deputies to use their internal Information Communication Technology (ICT) experts to ensure that the executives’ secrets are not leaking as they were vital for the health of the nation. The premier issued the directive in Dodoma yesterday when opening a two-day leadership training to ministers and their deputies.

The training was prepared and coordinated by the Uongozi Institute (UI). In the digital technology, the PM insisted that ministers were supposed to handle the government’s secrets with utmost care, insisting that they should equally collaborate with the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) and the Ministry of Information, Communications and Information Technology.

At the meeting, Mr Majaliwa also directed the ministers to refrain from using private aides as they were in a position to listen the telephone conversations from top leaders. He directed ministers who need aides and communications officers to forward their requests to permanent secretaries so that they get public servants who have already been subjected to a rigorous vetting process, instead of just taking people from the streets.

The premier underscored the need for the government confidential matters to be handled under great secrecy. He further directed them to implement all the directives that were being issued by top leaders, including those issued by the ruling party’s Secretary General, Daniel Chongolo.

The PM asked them to consider their dress code due to the fact that they were being watched by many Tanzanians who see them as role models. Among the topics that will be presented during the two-day training include responsibilities, discretionary powers, how to control feelings, secret keeping as well as using proper language when addressing people’s issues.

“You will be able to identify your boundaries in the course of discharging your duties, and I want you to stop being harsh to the people you serve,” he insisted.

In his directives, Mr Majaliwa warned some ministers and other top leaders who are switching off their phones during this period when technology is power, insisting that even at nights they are supposed to remain active.

Earlier on, the Minister of State, in the President’s Office (Good Governance and Public Service Management), Mr Mohammed Mchengerwa, said the training was vital to prepare the ministers and their deputies to be good leaders.

Mr Mchengerwa said that for the last time, similar training was conducted during the Fourth Phase Government under former President Jakaya Kikwete and that they mentored ministers on how best they should behave in leadership.
