Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE management of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam has assured the public that the venue is ready to host five international matches after other countries have opted to use it as their home territory.

Breaking the news recently was the stadium’s manager Godwin Nsajigwa who named the countries which have requested to use the venue in their CHAN encounters as Ethiopia, South Sudan, Burundi, Somalia and Djibouti.

“For us, we are privileged to have these countries playing here but we must make sure that the condition of the arena remains in good shape so that we should not face suspension and begin to search for playing venues outside the country.

“For now, the pitch is ready to host all the upcoming international matches including the one between Somalia versus Taifa Stars on Saturday,” he said.

Initially, Taifa Stars were supposed to travel to Somalia for Saturday’s game but their opponents requested to use Benjamin Mkapa arena as their home ground hence the country’s envoys will be the guest side on the day.

The reverse game will be played on July 30th whereby Taifa Stars are pegged to host the encounter slated at the same venue.

He further pointed out that the 60,000 capacity arena is all set to welcome the 2022/23 NBC Premier League fixtures saying they expect the season to be thrilling with many people coming up to watch matches.

“Teams have invested a lot to boost their respective squads as such next season, I hope it will be another entertaining term for football fans in the country and we are ready to accommodate them.

“We request Tanzanians who come to stadiums to watch games live that they should safeguard all the infrastructures available in the stadium in order to make them last longer and let upcoming generations to use them,” he said.

Additionally, Nsajigwa said they are prepared to host three big events in early August beginning with Yanga Day, Simba Day and the Community Shield match on August 13th saying the stadium was constructed to handle such massive occasions.

He also commented positively on the prospect of having Video Assistant Referee (VAR) installed in some of the country’s league hosting venues saying in modern football, VAR technology cannot be escaped.
