Africa-Press – Tanzania. THERE is reprieve in people who cannot afford the cost to build their houses, thanks to the government’s initiative through the National Housing Corporations (NHC), where anyone can own the building at a loan pegged at 9per cent.
NHC is almost completing houses in the country’s capital, Dodoma, where financially strapped people will be able to access a loan through the housing Corporation at a lower interest rate.
This was revealed here by the Minister for Lands and Human Settlement Development, William Lukuvi when he made an official working tour of the two ambitious projects currently being implemented by NHC.
According to Mr Lukuvi, President Samia Suluhu Hassan had issued a reprieve to people, especially public servants living in Dodoma, to have their families in the homesteads.
In the new plan, NHC will enter into agreement with customers, where someone will be paying the actual amount to own a house through a special loan which will be less than 9 per cent interest.
During the visit, Mr Lukuvi directed all officials countrywide to make sure that there were no persons constructing buildings without permits.
At Chamwino District, the minister said that authorities should look at the measures to ensure that no one was putting up buildings without proper directives from authorities.
Mr Lukuvi, during his tour of 300 rental and another 300 houses purchase at Iyumbu estates stated that in all processes of house occupation, everybody including ministers should abide by the law.
The minister insisted that for one to construct any building, the plot was supposed to have been planned, surveyed, given title deed as well as building permit.
He also insisted that he had noted with concern that at the Chamwino State House’s gate, there were 2,000 hectares which have now been invaded by people, directing that nobody is allowed to use the land even as the government was yet to pay compensation.
