Africa-Press – Tanzania. The floods followed on-going heavy rains at different places within Morogoro municipality whereas people’s properties and houses have also been damaged.
Morogoro district commissioner, Albert Msando said there are no death reports, adding they have yet established the exact number of flood victims. He said the on-going evaluation exercise will help them to know the number of damaged properties and houses that have been damaged by the rain water.
Msando said following the floods in the wards, he has directed the Fire and Rescue Force to provide rescue services to the people whose houses have been surrounded by water.
“People were asleep when it rained during midnight, only to find water inside their houses. We are looking for safer places to accommodate them as we continue with evaluation. We need to know the exact number of collapsed houses before taking actions,” stated the District Commissioner.
The District Commissioner noted that head teachers at both primary and secondary schools have been ordered to temporarily suspend learning seasons to avoid possible accidents that may be caused by the floods.
Morogoro Urban Member of Parliament, Abdulaziz Abood said the situation is worsening due to continued rains in the two wards. He said they are thankful that no individuals have been affected by the floods, apart from water entering people’s homes.
“There are houses that have been partly damaged while others have collapsed. We appreciate the good response of the government as people are calm and listening to their leaders,” said the legislator.
