Africa-PressTanzania. MUSOMA-Urban legislator, Vedastus Manyinyi (CCM) on Friday demanded the government to allow youth to use their academic certificates as collateral when applying for bank loans to finance various economic activities.

Speaking in the National Assembly, the MP sought government’s clarification on its latest strategy tailored to help reduce unemployment rate among the youth graduating from various universities.

“Why can’t these young people use their certificates as collateral to get loans in order

engage in various economic activities,” he solicited.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for people with disabilities, Ummy Nderiananga acknowledged the lawmaker’s proposal saying the government will work on the suggestion.

The government has been confronting youth unemployment among graduates through the National Strategy for Promoting Employment Opportunities, however, lawmakers believe the strategy hasn’t produced substantial results.
