Mpina’s race for Kisesa Constituency hits a crackpot

Africa-Press – Tanzania. LUHAGA Mpina, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kisesa in Simiyu Region, has been officially excluded from the list of CCM parliamentary aspirants approved by the party’s Central Committee to proceed to the internal primary elections.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, by CCM’s Secretary for Ideology, Publicity, and Training, CPA Amos Makalla, while releasing the names of aspirants who qualified to advance to the next stage of the party’s selection process.

According to Makalla, the CCM Central Committee approved seven candidates to compete in the primaries scheduled for August 4, 2025. The approved candidates are Lusingi Makanda, Silinde Mhachile, Joel Mboyi, D. Madili Sakumi, Godfrey Mbuga, Elias Mambembela, and Gambamala Michael Luchuga.

Mpina, who has served as MP for Kisesa since 2005, was left out despite his long-standing political career within the ruling party. He previously served as Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment) and later as Minister for Livestock and Fisheries from 2017 to 2020.

Known for his outspoken nature, Mpina has built a reputation as one of the more assertive voices within CCM. He has frequently used parliamentary platforms to openly criticize certain government decisions, making him one of the closely watched political figures within the party.

His exclusion from the primaries signals a potential shift in CCM’s internal dynamics as the party prepares for the upcoming General Election scheduled for October 29, 2025.
