Africa-PressTanzania. TEMEKE District Commissioner Jokate Mwegelo is set to grace the Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (BD) general meeting and the election scheduled in Dar es Salaam today.

Official from Electoral Committee, Gosbert Boniface told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday that preparation for the polls has been finalised and that the association will hold the general meeting before electing office bearers at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Boniface confirmed that Mwegelo, who is a big basketball fan, will be the chief guest and that she has confirmed to grace the general meeting. “We commend our chief guest Mwegelo for responding well to our invitation, she will speak to the basketball fraternity in the region,” he added.

Boniface added that the committee is delighted to see the election process went smoothly and that all available posts have been filled. According to him the post shall be filled after election as stated by BD April 2002 constitution.

He said the leadership positions to be contested in accordance with the association constitution include chairman, vice-chairman, secretary general and treasurer.

Boniface named those passed after the screening and ready for election are Shendu Mwagala (Chairman), Malale Masanywa (vice-chairman), whilst secretary general post has two candidates Mpoki Mwakipake and Edwin Kilagwa and Joseph Masawe who contested for treasurer post.

According to Boniface, other nine commission posts and its candidates are Terence Muhimbira and Edson Byemerwa (financial commission, planning and development), Fatma Yassoda (women’s development), Bakari Saad (players with disabilities and special needs), Shabaan Mahobonya (referee development), Kanyota Mgawe (sports medicine), Britho Safari (teacher / coach development), and children and school sports development commission that has three candidates; Irene Haule, Josiah John and Agnes Njavike.

“All members and clubs that are eligible to vote will be required to complete all required formalities that include to register on the voter club membership form which will be posted outside the polling station,” he added
