Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Arts Council of Tanzania (BASATA) has awarded prizes to the winners of its Youth Painting Competition, an initiative aimed to promote and develop visual arts among Tanzanian youth.
The competition, which was concluded at the University of Dar es Salaam’s Department of Creative Arts, saw Stanley Innocent Mwinuka emerge as the overall winner, pocketing a 500,000/- cash prize.
Crispine Patrick Mboya secured second place and received 200,000/-, while Kelvin Peter Malonji finished third and awarded 100,000/-.
Speaking during the award ceremony, BASATA Acting Executive Secretary Edward Buganga congratulated all participants for their outstanding creativity displayed in their artworks.
He noted that the 25 finalist paintings reflected a wide range of socially relevant themes, including patriotism, tourism, and cultural heritage—demonstrating the power of art in educating and inspiring society.
Buganga added that painting can serve as an important tool for promoting Tanzania’s tourist attractions, particularly through effective use of social media platforms with high-quality and engaging content.
He also encouraged young people to continue seizing opportunities in the arts sector, emphasizing that although only a few emerged as winners, all participants deserve recognition for their creativity.
He urged them to use their talents to showcase the country’s development in ways that align with the growth of technology.
The Youth Painting Competition is part of BASATA’s ongoing efforts to promote visual arts among Tanzanian youth. This initiative not only encourages artistic expression but also aims to enhance the cultural landscape of Tanzania. By recognizing young talents, BASATA seeks to inspire a new generation of artists who can contribute to the country’s cultural heritage and tourism sector.
