Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi yesterday led hundreds of mourners at the burial of prominent politician Issa Kassim Issa famously known as ‘Baharia’ who was laid to rest at his home village Uroa in Central District, Unguja.
Dr Mwinyi took part at a special prayer for the deceased held at the Uroa Grand Friday Mosque and later headed to offer his condolences to the late Issa’s family. Other leaders who were present at the burial ceremony include the Deputy Chief Justice of Zanzibar Khamis Ramadhan, Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representative, Zubeir Ali Maulid and Zanzibar Chief Secretary, Eng Zena Ahmed Said.
Others were ministers, regional commissioners, religious leaders, politicians and various political party leaders and from the government. Reading the biography of the deceased, Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) South Unguja Youth WingSecretary, Aboud Said Mpate, said the deceased was born in the year 1957 at Uroa Village of Central District in Unguja and obtained his primary and secondary education at Uroa School.
After completing his secondary school education, the deceased went for Field Engineer Logistic Communications training at the Tanzania’s People Defence Force (TPDF). The deceased joined CCM in 1977, serving in various posts within the party such as National Executive Council (NEC), a Member of Parliament for Mpendae (2005-2010) and a member of Politics Committee of NEC from South Unguja in 2017, the position he had held until death.
The ruling CCM in the South Region sent condolences to the deceased’s family, relatives and party members and all its wings, calling upon them to observe patience in this difficult moment and pray to God to rest the soul of the fallen politician in peace. The late Issa passed away on Saturday at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam Region, leaving behind 12 children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
