Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has officially concluded the diplomatic tour dubbed “Diplomatic Safari and Tour”, which involved ambassadors representing their countries in Tanzania visiting various tourist attractions in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Speaking during the closing ceremony held on the night of April 14, 2025, at Aldiana Hotel in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, President Mwinyi expressed his gratitude to the ambassadors for visiting the country and for helping promote Tanzania as a top global tourist destination.
He noted that the visit not only showcased Tanzania’s rich tourism offerings but also opened doors to greater opportunities for the tourism sector, particularly in Zanzibar. He encouraged the ambassadors to continue acting as unofficial ambassadors by promoting Tanzania as a must-visit destination in their respective countries.
President Mwinyi also highlighted key achievements in Zanzibar’s tourism development, including the expansion of Terminal 3 at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. This upgrade has enabled the island to receive direct flights from around 34 international airlines annually, bringing thousands of tourists to explore Zanzibar and Tanzania’s attractions.
According to President Mwinyi, Zanzibar has increasingly gained international recognition as a premier tourism hub. He cited the 2024 World Travel Awards, where Zanzibar was named Africa’s Leading Festival and Event Destination, as a testament to its growing global reputation.
“As we look ahead, our vision for Zanzibar is clear: we are committed to building a tourism sector that is not only vibrant but also sustainable, inclusive, and beneficial to the social and economic well-being of our people,” said Dr. Mwinyi.
The “Diplomatic Safari and Tour” was officially launched on April 11, 2025, at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Doto Biteko. The initiative aimed to give ambassadors a firsthand experience of the unique tourism attractions across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Meanwhile, Zanzibar’s Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for organizing the tour and recognizing Zanzibar as a key part of the itinerary — a move he said reflects the high value placed on the island’s tourism sector.
