Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) has saluted seniour men’s side for winning the just ended ICC T20 men’s World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifiers held in Kigali, Rwanda after they beat Botswana by three runs on Monday.
It was the last fixture which would be the decider on who will top the group between Tanzania and Botswana and what a game it was when the Tanzania lads triumphed, winning all of their four assignments.
The decider saw the Tanzanian team opting to bat and posted a respectable total of 143 on the board but lost wickets at regular intervals.
Botswana had a steady chase, maintaining the run rate and it went to the last ball of the tournament to decide the winner. Following the feat, TCA Vice-Chairman, Shaheed Dhanani congratulated the lads and sent special praise to the bowling performance of Jitin Pratap Singh, which helped the team win a very tough game.
TCA also hailed the opponents for reaching the finals. “We congratulate Botswana for a terrific performance that is worthy of an applause” he said.
Tanzanian cricketers were in Kigali for their yet another attempt to seek qualifications for the 2022 World Cup finals in Australia. The event took place at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium and IPRC (Integrated Polytechnic Regional College) Kicukiro Ground.
Tanzania will therefore, proceed to the African regional finals, where they will compete with Nigeria and Kenya for the lone qualification slot. Tanzania has for years been competing for World Cup qualification but to no avail, but this time around, the TCA has struggled enough to make sure that their team make it.
Before going to Rwanda, the team had a training tour of Mombasa, Kenya where they excelled. The result was psychological boost for them ready for the showdown in Kigali. With Kenya and Nigeria being the two highest-ranked teams, both sides have progressed directly to the regional final in 2022. The Regional Finals will take place from November 15th – 21st, 2021.
