Africa-Press – Tanzania. CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi Secretary General Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi has said that the upbringing and education that instil discipline and responsibility to students in schools are crucial in building a strong and patriSamia calls for African unity otic nation.
He also urged religious leaders and different denominations to continue praying for Tanzania, ensuring the country continues to uphold peace and stability.
Ambassador Nchimbi made the remarks on Thursday during a meeting of Uru Seminary School, alumni in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, after a funeral service for the former Rector of the seminary, Father Canute Shirima AJ.
“Anyone who studied at Uru Seminary cannot fail to recognise the unique contribution of Fr Shirima. We were taught discipline, responsibility, diligence in work and the importance of paying attention to various issues. These teachings have made us better servants in various fields of life,” said Ambassador Nchimbi.
He added that the upbringing by teachers plays a significant role in building a society with good morals and to establish a strong, patriotism, insisting that the nation should value the efforts of teachers in shaping a generation with strong values.
In promoting morals and national unity, Dr Nchimbi urged religious leaders to continue praying for the nation and its leaders so that Tanzania remains a peaceful country.
“I call upon religious leaders to continue praying for Tanzania, its government leaders, CCM and even the opposition, so that God may continue to guide us. There are people with intentions to cause chaos, so it is very important that we continue protecting our peace,” he said.
He also congratulated the alumni of Uru Seminary School for the unity they demonstrated during the funeral of Father Shirima, encouraging them to maintain that unity for the benefit of the community and the nation as a whole.
Meanwhile, CCM National Chairperson President Samia Suluhu Hassan has donated 50m/- for the development of Uru Seminary School.
The contribution is intended to serve as a memorial in honour of the late Father Shirima, who was once the Rector of the school, one of the most renowned seminaries in the country.
Dr Nchimbi announced the contribution on behalf of President Samia while delivering condolences during the funeral service of Fr Shirima held at Uru Seminary on Thursday.
“Everything I have said here about the retired Rector Fr Shirima and how he was a good mentor teaching discipline and responsibility has been communicated President Samia. I informed her that I was cutting short my visit to attend this funeral. The President told me she is donating 50m/- to Uru Seminary so that we can establish something that will honour his legacy,” said Dr Nchimbi said.
Presiding over the funeral service, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Moshi, Rudovick Minde ALCP/OSS, said the late Fr Shirima was a gift from God to the community he served.
“As evidenced here by the crowd gathered, you have seen and heard how he mentored now prominent people, including bishops, priests, senior government leaders and we even received condolences from the President’s Office. Father Canute was a gift from God to us,” said Bishop Minde.
Father Shirima of the Apostles of Jesus who passed away while on a mission in South Africa, was laid to rest with full Catholic Church honours at the cemetery of Uru Seminary School in Moshi, Kilimanjaro.
