Africa-Press – Tanzania. CCM presidential running mate, Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi has pledged continued efforts to boost Tabora Region’s economy through the completion of tobacco processing and fertiliser factories.
Addressing hundreds of residents at a campaign rally in Sikonge Constituency yesterday, Amb Nchimbi said the ruling party aims to ensure tobacco farmers benefit from reliable markets, fair prices and improved production environments through value-adding industries that raise incomes and create jobs.
“Tabora has already increased tobacco production by five per cent, but we want to go further. In the next five years, we will complete construction of a tobacco processing factory and a fertiliser plant,” he said.
Amb Nchimbi added that a CCM government will continue working closely with agricultural and marketing institutions to protect farmers’ rights and shield them from exploitation.
“Our manifesto clearly states that CCM will strengthen cooperation with relevant institutions to ensure farmers access their rights and get full support where needed,” he said.
Expanding on CCM’s broader agriculture agenda, Amb Nchimbi announced plans to establish two new irrigation schemes in Sikonge, modernise existing ones and construct a large dam to support four more schemes.
The party also intends to promote small-scale agro-processing industries to increase value addition and create employment opportunities.
Amb Nchimbi also laid out major development priorities for Sikonge District, including upgrading Sikonge District Hospital into a fully equipped facility with specialist services, constructing four dispensaries and three additional health centres, building two new secondary and two new primary schools and adding 120 classrooms to reduce congestion in existing schools.
On infrastructure, he said the government will upgrade at least ten key roads, including Sikonge Town–Mission–Tutuo Road, Sikonge–Mazimbwe Road and Tabora–Koga–Mpanda stretch.
To address persistent water challenges, Amb Nchimbi announced accelerated implementation of major projects, including the extension of the Lake Victoria water supply scheme to Sikonge, Urambo and Kaliua.
“Our target is that at least 80 out of every 100 people in the region should have access to clean and safe water. We will drill 17 new boreholes and construct the Kirumbi Dam to serve the villages of Kirumbi, Mwamalagu and Kiombo,” he said.
On his part, CCM’s parliamentary candidate for Sikonge, Amosy Maganga, praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for transforming the tobacco sector, ensuring timely sales and improved earnings for farmers.
“Last season alone, we sold over 56.6 million kilogrammes of tobacco worth more than 169bn/-, a historic record for Sikonge. This is all thanks to Mama Samia’s commitment,” he pointed out.
CCM Central Zone Election Coordinator, Dr Bashiru Ali, also praised Amb Nchimbi for his campaign energy and reaffirmed the party’s determination to secure an overwhelming victory.
“We want the Central Zone to remain CCM’s stronghold. The foundations of our national unity are firm and CCM is the only party capable of safeguarding that unity,” he added
