Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE newly appointed Rural Energy Agency (REA) Director General, Engineer Hassan Said has demanded efficiency and diligence among the agency workers, so as to meet the target of connecting all villages in the country with electricity come next year.
Eng Said who has taken over from his predecessor, Eng Amos Maganga on October 29, 2021 was officially handed over the office mid this week.
Eng Said was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to assume the post of REA Director General from September 23 this year. The new REA boss thanked President Samia for trusting him to serve Tanzanians in the post and promised that he would not let her down.
“If we fail in fulfilling our responsibilities, we will disappoint many Tanzanians who rely on energy as a tool to change their lives, so we should pull up our socks,” he said.
Prior to his new role, he worked as the Senior Regional Manager for the Eastern Region of Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (TANESCO). Eng Said stated that most Tanzanians, especially in rural areas have put their hopes in REA
“This means we need to work diligently so as to avoid disappointing the people who need electricity to transform their living standard,” he said. He also commended the Rural Energy Board (REB) under Chairman Julius Kalolo, his predecessor Eng.
Maganga and all REA staff for the good work done and for achieving a positive step in supplying energy to the rural areas.
“REA is one of the public institutions that has done a great job and has touched the lives of rural dwellers,” said the DG. He stressed that success cannot be achieved if the agency does not have a strong and professional board, good management and hardworking staff.
“I need maximum cooperation from the board, management and all REA staff in order to successfully carry out its duties,” stressed Eng Said.
Speaking after formally handing over the office to the new Director, Eng. Maganga thanked God, the board and all REA staff for giving him support throughout his time as DG.
He noted that the achievements made in the rural energy sector are due to the strong cooperation he had received from the staff.
The former DG asked them to give his successor such cooperation, while noting that he personally believes in him and recognizes him as a hardworking and skilled worker in the field.
Speaking on behalf of the Board, Chairman Advocate Julius Kalolo congratulated Eng. Said on his appointment by the president. He promised that the board would give him maximum cooperation in carrying out his duties.
Adv. Kalolo also congratulated and thanked Eng. Maganga for the cooperation he offered to the board during his time in the post of DG.
