Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing clean and safe water to all rural Tanzanians, including residents of Songambele Ward in Kyerwa District, Kagera Region.
Deputy Minister for Water, Engineer Mathew Kundo, gave the assurance yesterday in the National Assembly while responding to a question from Kyerwa MP Innocent Bilakwate (CCM), who sought clarity on when a water project would be launched in Songambele Ward.
Engineer Kundo said the government has already completed the drilling of a deep well and constructed basic infrastructure through the Special Programme for Drilling 900 Boreholes, enabling residents in Songambele to begin accessing water services.
He added that under a longterm plan, the government will begin implementing the first phase of a comprehensive water supply project in Songambele during the 2025/26 financial year.
“Planned components of the project include the construction of a 300,000-litre storage tank, laying of 21 kilometres of pipelines and establishment of 23 water collection points,” he said.
The project is expected to be completed within eight months and will benefit over 18,400 residents across various villages in the ward. The initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to improve rural water access and enhance public health and quality of life in underserved communities.
