Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) has revealed plans to launch a comprehensive database containing various details about the area’s natural heritage, including the population of wild animals within the protected zone.
This was announced by the NCAA’s Conservation Commissioner, Abdul-Razaq Badru, at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).
“Ngorongoro is an unforgettable heritage site. It is considered the cradle of mankind, with some of the earliest known humans having lived there, humans with large physiques,” said Mr Badru.
He said that the site is globally recognised as the origin of human life and the authority is keen to showcase this to visitors.
“We invite people to come and witness this history, not humans like us, but beings with unique and mysterious characteristics. This will be part of the new heritage products we’re developing to help people understand human origins.”
He added that the area also hosts unique wildlife and ecosystems not commonly found in other parts of Africa and Tanzania.
“We are enhancing conservation efforts so that the ecosystem can meet evolving needs and ensure that Ngorongoro retains its uniqueness as a sanctuary for both humans and wildlife,” Mr Badru said.
The commissioner further revealed that the authority is expanding the range of tourism products beyond traditional offerings.
“There’s a lot we are working on. Soon, we will unveil new products based on the area’s distinct features such as the crater, wildlife, water sources and various plant species that many people are unaware of,” he said. In collaboration with other stakeholders in the tourism sector, NCAA aims to transform these features into valuable tourism products.
Additionally, the authority is working to improve visitor services within the area, including accommodation and catering.
“We want everyone who visits to benefit fully whether they come for leisure, research, or education,” Mr Badru said.
