Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE NLD presidential candidate, Doyo Hassan Doy,o has assured the residents of Kwimba District in Mwanza that his party will sort out all challenges hindering the development of Lake Zone residents.
He named the challenges to be given priority as water, health, employment, and road services.
Giving an example, Doyo said that while in Maswa district, Binza ward, he witnessed a Primary School with toilets that lack water, a situation that causes some children to clean themselves on the walls of the toilets.
He said the situation is a major threat to public health security.
“64 years of independence, just five kilometers from the city, the school lacks water; this is very dangerous. If the ruling party government fails to deliver water even to the toilet, what will it do for the citizens?,” he questioned.
In addition, Doyo said that according to NBS statistics (2022), more than 30 percent of health facilities in the country are facing shortages of essential medicines, especially in rural areas. Similarly, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that more than 40 percent of patients are forced to buy medicines from the private sector due to shortages of medicines in public facilities.
Adding, he said a World Bank report (2022) shows that the doctor-patient ratio in Tanzania is 1:25,000, a level that is far below the WHO-recommended standards of 1:1,000. He said this situation makes many Tanzanians wait for a long period to see a doctor, which causes serious health consequences.
