Africa-Press – Tanzania. DAR ES SALAAM: NMB Bank has pledged to continue supporting the health sector in the country as part of the efforts to improve the delivery of quality health services in the country.

“Addressing challenges in the health sector in Tanzania is a top priority for NMB Bank and this is because health is an issue of utmost importance in the development of any country in this world,” NMB Bank Dar es Salaam Zonal Manager, Mr Dismas Prosper said in Dar es Salaam recently after donating 500 bedsheets JKCI worth 9m/-.

He said NMB Bank appreciates the efforts of the Sixth Phase Government under Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan in enhancing the delivery of health services and improving the conditions of providing them in both rural and urban Tanzania.

According to him, the bank has for many years now been undertaking impactful social investments across the country with a special focus on education and health as part of sharing the profits it makes with society. Mr Prosper said for seven consecutive years, NMB Bank has been setting aside one per cent of its net income to finance CSR initiatives.

Ilala District Commissioner, Edward Mpogolo said at the event, “Accounting principles allow for 0.05 per cent of profit after tax to be allocated for social causes but very few businesses do it,” He said with its growing local and international reputation in providing cardiovascular care, training and research services, JKCI requires support to not only better what it is doing but also expand outreach to serve more people.

Mr Mpogoro said the institute has also become a tourist attraction with visitors coming to marvel at how it operates in treating both local and foreign patients. Speaking earlier, JKCI Executive Director Dr Peter Kisenge said their success story cannot be complete without mentioning the partnership support from NMB Bank.
