Online platform boosts business formalisation, says BRELA

Africa-PressTanzania. THE Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA) says the online business registration has become a fundamental platform in the formalising more businesses.

This was unveiled by the Head of Public Relations Unit, Roida Andusamile at BRELA in Dar es Salaam while making assessment of the 45th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) that ended recently.

She said during the period the exhibitions they managed to register 618 out of 500 that were targeted thus surpassing the target.

Ms Andusamile said through advertising and visiting businessmen in their pavilions it was what enabled them to achieve the goals and beyond.

“What helped to surpass the targets was the mobilisation we conducted through the sabasaba trade fair by visiting traders in their stalls as well as having two stalls one near the main entrance gate and the other within the Ministry of Industry and Trade,” said Andusamile. She said the registration was done in ten categories following the needs of citizens.

First there was the registration of new business name which enabled them to register 394, Cessation of business ten, Change of particulars of business names 88, Data update of an existing business name five and filing of annual return (update) one.

Others were filling in annual return (accounts) six, change of particulars of company 49, filing of documents about one company and Company name reservation were eight.

She also said that there were challenges that some stakeholders faced to get services without having an email address to enable them to log in to the system as BRELA does all registrations through online.

However she said due to the positive response of stakeholders, BRELA will continue to encourage all traders to formalise their businesses through training, conferences and even visit them in their places of business with the aim of ensuring that all Tanzanian traders formalise their businesses so that the businesses gain legal dignity.
