Africa-Press – Tanzania. DAR ES SALAAM: VICE President Dr Philip Mpango led Tanzanians to receive a newly procured plane, Boeing 737- MAX9, at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday saying transport sector has played a significant role in boosting the country’s tourism.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the acquired plane, VP Mpango said a number of foreigners and tourists flooding in the country jumped to 1,070, 734 in 2022/23, thanks to the tremendously growing transport sector.

He assured that the government will continue injecting more funds in the sector since it is the country’s economic driver.

“An effective and vibrant transport sector will give the country more competitive advantages, generating foreign currency,” he said.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Chief Executive Office and Managing Director of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) said that the plane has a capacity of carrying up to 181 passengers, 16 in business class while the rest stay in the ordinary class.

Boeing 737- MAX9 can fly for eight hours without landing.

However, he said that the company expects to receive the other two planes before the end of this year.
