Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Government has revealed that the criminals in the cybercrime makes illegal transactions of between 500m/- and 1bn/- every day.

Briefing the press at the sidelines of the quarterly meeting with the heads of security forces, the Home Affairs Minister George Simbachawene said despite the efforts made by the relevant authorities under his docket, the situation of cybercrime was still alarming.

The Minister ordered the Police Force to conduct a special operation to arrest such perpetrators immediately.

“I want to see those people arrested, the situation threatens our economy, and whoever arrested will be subjected to economic sabotage charges,” he insisted.

Mr Simbachawene expressed that in recent days there were drastic rise of cybercrimes through social media, something which endangered the national peace and security.

Furthermore, he warned online users against misusing freedom of expression by defaming others, especially government leaders, saying that was against cybercrime Act of 2015.

“People use their freedom of expression inappropriately, being free does not mean to insult others or doing the thing that is contrary to our traditions and norms of our society,” he noted.

Mr Simbachawene also ordered the police force to cooperate with international police (Interpol) and other transboundary security organs to capture the perpetrators. Moreover, he ordered the RPC’s all over the country to do door to door operation to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice as one of the immediate measures to address the problems.

“Some Tanzanians use foreign mobile numbers or fake identity; use the available security cooperation to capture them and face charges,” he ordered.

Additionally, the minister said that the government decided to establish 6 Forensic Bureau to speed up cybercrime investigations that could make those cases end in time.

The bureaus will be established in 6 zones, and they will have a duty to keep the records and data that could ease operations to trace cybercrime perpetrators.
