Pitso offers Yanga recipe for CAF duels

Africa-Press – Tanzania. FORMER Al Ahly Head Coach Pitso Mosimane has given Young Africans a recipe of succeeding in the upcoming CAF Champions League games saying they should concentrate much on winning home games while hoping to record draw in away matches.

The South African trainer is in the country to grace the climax of ‘Wiki ya Mwananchi’ gala at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam today.

At a media briefing in the city yesterday, Mosimane seized the platform to advise Yanga on what they should do so as to reach higher stages of the Championship League insisting that it is vital to ensure that they win home matches.

“I am giving you the recipe, if you succeed to reach in the group stage, then concentrate a lot on winning home games so that you can have nine points and hoping to get two away draws…hence you are through,” he said.

He added that he has been in such situations for nearly 12 years and he is aware how difficult it is to succeed in champions league but encouraged Yanga’s technical bench to take the recipe he gave them.

He also hailed the team’s coach for guiding his side to claim a treble of titles last season saying it is pleasing when African coaches do well for their African clubs.

“Africa must look after Africa. We have a lot of talented players on the continent who simply need to be well nurtured and I am happy to see that the coach who helped Yanga to have a remarkable last season is an African,” he said.

He also reiterated that he was surprised with big turnout of Yanga fans when the club paraded the Premier League trophy saying it was unbelievable and has never experienced such reception on the continent.

Moreover, he said being invited to attend the ‘Wiki ya Mwananchi’ event is a big honour to him and appreciated the club for the invitation saying he is ready to experience it directly from the stadium.

Among other things, the coach conducted a brief football clinic at Gymnkhana grounds in the city where he imparted some football skills to young players who turned up at the venue.

However, the epicenter of today’s ‘Wiki ya Mwananchi’ occasion will see Yanga testing their players against Vipers of Uganda in an international friendly match which will also be used as part of their preparations for the coming 2022/23 league season.

After today’s meeting, the Jangwani street giants will face their traditional rivals Simba in a Community Shield match to be staged at the same venue on August 13th this year.
