PM Orders Review of Areas Indicating Corruption

Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has directed a comprehensive review of all government areas with indicators of corruption, especially those involving public leaders.

He issued the directive today, December 11, 2025, in Dodoma during his meeting with leaders and officials from the Ethics Secretariat for Public Leaders.

In his remarks, Dr Nchemba stated that approximately 75 percent of the Government’s budget goes to procurement, which is the sector considered to have the largest loopholes for corruption. For this reason, he has instructed the Minister in the President’s Office responsible for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, to thoroughly investigate all areas at risk of misappropriating public funds.

He explained that procurement officers are not required to declare their assets or fill in key ethical information, creating opportunities for misuse of public resources. Therefore, he emphasized the need for these areas to be identified and made transparent to ensure accountability.

The Prime Minister also called for the strengthening of ethical standards within the public sector and beyond, stressing that it is impossible to build a morally upright society if its leaders do not uphold integrity.
