Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME MINISTER Kassim Majaliwa has directed ministries to revive the inter-ministerial Games (SHIMIWI) saying it is vital for public servants. The essence of restoring sports and games to public servants is to offer them an opportunity to exercise their bodies and become free from diseases.
The Premier issued these directives yesterday during the CRDB Bank Marathon when he represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Greens, Oysterbay in Dar es Salaam.
“… I direct the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports to work with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, Gender Development, Elderly and Children and the Office of the President, Regional Administration and Local Government to strategies joint sports revitalisation and sports participation for staff, students and citizens in general. ” The Prime Minister stated that the Government has, in turn, allowed Sports activities to continue to recognise its importance in improving the health of human beings and protecting themselves from the Covid-19 outbreak.
The Prime Minister insisted that the World Health Organization (WHO) have recommended that people should exercise at least 150 minutes a week, that’s 30 minutes daily for five days a week.
“I was relieved to see this great response from Tanzanians for their participation in CRDB Bank Marathon. This is a good example of the willingness and good-heartedness you have to donate for children’s to have successive heart surgery.”
“I have been informed that your participation in this marathon will enable you access to funding for setting up a Cancer Information Center at Ocean Road Cancer Institute. The Station will be a link to connect all cancer patients.”
Earlier, CRDB Bank CEO Abdulmajid Nsekela said, this is the second time that the bank has organised a marathon; in August last year, more than 4,000 people donated for 100 children to receive treatment cardiac surgery at the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute at the cost of 200m/-.
Meanwhile, Tanzanians and Kenyan runners yesterday dominated top three positions on the CRDB Bank International Marathon for charity which a total prize package was 50m/-.
A Kenyan emerged as the winner on male side while a Tanzania on women side and walk home with hefty prizes. The Kenyan, Paulo Ayanaye, ran the 42 kilometres clocking 02:15:28 and walked home with 5m/- while a Tanzanian Shelmith Nyawira won for women side.
Also on the 21km race for male, Kenyan Mkungo Panuel emerged a winner after spending 01:03:19 and another Kenyan Pauline Esikon won for women side clocking 01:12:17.
The fund of the marathon, which is recognised by World Athletics and Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS), will be channeled to various sectors notably the health sector.
In other categories, the 10km, winners were both Tanzanians for male and female categories, for men Joseph Tiophil used 00:28:51 and Transfora Musa clinched the women title after using 00:33:52. For a 65km bicycle race, a Tanzanian Masunga Duba won after using 01:49:07, while for women Swabra Abdallah also from Tanzania took the title using 02:06:39.
