Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called on youths across the country to reject attempts by individuals or groups with ill motives to use them for destructive purposes, stressing their crucial role in driving economic growth, maintaining peace and strengthening national unity.
The Premier made the call yesterday during the launch of the National Youth Week 2025 held at Uhindini Grounds in Mbeya.
The event, themed “Youth Workforce for Sustainable Development”, brought together young people from across the country, government officials, private sector leaders and various development partners.
“I want to remind you to be self-aware and to understand that the nation depends on you. You are the new generation that will drive our country’s economic growth, uphold peace and unity and strengthen national cohesion. Do not allow yourselves to be used by groups or individuals with ill intentions against our nation,” said Mr Majaliwa.
He further cautioned the youth to reject any form of provocation or divisive rhetoric, saying: “If you encounter anyone instigating violence or discrimination, reject them outright. Say no to divisive and inciting messages.”
The Prime Minister commended Tanzanian youth for their increasing contributions in various sectors including innovation, technology, agriculture, sports and the arts, noting that their efforts continue to spur positive social and economic transformation.
“You have demonstrated great potential in embracing new technologies and leveraging digital platforms such as artificial intelligence and modern communication systems to conduct business and enhance connectivity,” he said.
The Premier also issued several directives to enhance youth empowerment, including a call for education and vocational institutions to improve curricula and training programmes that align with the needs of the job market.
He stressed the importance of technology and innovation to equip youth with relevant skills for both current and future employment opportunities.
Majaliwa also urged local authorities, private sector players and financial institutions to expand affordable loans and business advisory services for youth.
He also called on all stakeholders to ensure that young people and entrepreneurs are fully involved in decision-making processes not just as beneficiaries of policies, but also as innovators, leaders and key contributors to social and economic development.
He further highlighted the government continued reforms, including the National Youth Policy of 2024 and the Economic empowerment programme, which has increased access to affordable capital through local government funds.
Moreover, he said, the government continues to invest in youth education by strengthening the national education system.
He also encouraged the youth to turn out in large numbers to vote and elect leaders who prioritise youth interests, sustainable development and the country’s long-term growth strategies.
“Listen to all candidates and their policies and choose those committed to youth development and national progress,” he said.
On his part, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Ridhiwani Kikwete, said the ministry continues to implement key initiatives aimed at empowering all youth including those with disabilities to participate fully in national development.
