Africa-Press – Tanzania. The contribution of manufacturers, importers and distributors of non-woven and plastic bags in the economy and employment will increase if they produce goods that meet the required standards.
Speaking at the opening of the training to manufacturers, importers and distributors of non-woven and plastic bags, an official with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) said producing high quality bags will help penetrate a wide market.
He said to support the government efforts in boosting economic growth, TBS is using its mandate to provide important information to manufacturers, importers and distributors of non-woven and plastic bags to meet required standards and generate more revenues.
“TBS will continue to put more emphasis on issues related to standards and quality assurance,” he said.
He said the aim for TBS doing this is to make sure the business on packaging materials is being conducted on systems that are legally accepted as well as regulations that support the standards and quality assurance.
He said the decision focus at making this is to make sure all environmental laws are observed and prevent the environment from the pollution that may be caused by goods and packaging materials after use.
Ms Mwambole said the training targets to prepare participants to observe professionalism in producing, importing and distributing non-woven and plastic bags into the local markets.
“This is of paramount importance because the business sector involves many people. For example, consumers depend much on distributors to get various goods,” he added.
Speaking about the training, participants commended the initiative saying it has come at the right time as the sixth phase government is keen on boosting the industrial economy and provide more jobs.
One of the participants, Rashid Abdallah said the training demonstrate the government quest to establish a robust industrial sector that can contribute immensely to economic development.
Among the issues discussed and that need clarifications are the requirement of the national standard including TZS 1726: 2015, TZS 1729: 2015, TZS1730: 2015, FTZS 1257: 2021, TZS and FTZS 2709: 2021.
