Prominent Figures Axed as CCM Parents Wing Concludes Polls

Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Parents’ Wing has successfully concluded its internal opinion polls to select candidates for Special Seats in both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, with some prominent figures failing to progress to the next stage.

Among those who fell short in the preliminary vote is singer-turned-politician and incumbent Special Seats MP, Khadija Taya (Keisha), who secured only 94 votes out of 708 valid ballots.

The seat for Special Seats MP through the Parents’ Wing on the Mainland, which attracted 18 contenders, was convincingly won by Catherine Joachim, who garnered 567 votes.

In the Zanzibar category for Special Seats MP, incumbent legislator Najma Murtaza Giga emerged the frontrunner after obtaining 591 votes out of 705 valid ballots, leaving her five challengers far behind.

Meanwhile, in the race for Special Seats in the Zanzibar House of Representatives, which featured eight aspirants competing for two available positions, Aza Januari Joseph topped the list with 350 votes, followed closely by Salama Abasi Juma, who received 330 votes.A total of 702 valid votes were cast in this category.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, CCM Deputy Secretary General (Mainland) and election supervisor for the Parents’ Wing, said the polls were conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution, electoral regulations, and the Parents’ Wing guidelines.

“Let me remind you that this is just the beginning. We have a long road ahead. Let’s not leave here celebrating or retreating—we must go back and work for the party,” he said.
