Africa-Press – Tanzania. STANDARD six pupil of Buhongwa A primary school, Eliya Yohana, has emerged a winner in road safety competition involved different schools.

Eliya has impressed judges of the competition after drawing road signs that would be used to impart education to his fellow pupils so that they become aware of road safety matters to avoid accidents.

The competition was organized by the Puma Energy Tanzania as part of its activities for communities and saving lives of Tanzanians.

The company yesterday awarded him a cash prize of 500,000/- and 4m/- for his school.

At an award giving ceremony held in Geita region, the Puma Energy Tanzania said the cash prize to the school would help in addressing some of challenges it faces.

School head teacher Baraka Rashidi said they were pleased with the pupil’s victory, saying apart from participating in spreading message over road safety, his achievement has brought respect to the school.

Mr Rashid said the school will use the money for buying, among others, photocopier, printer, laptops and two chairs for head teacher and his assistant.

“We thank the Puma Energy Tanzania for organizing this competition for primary schools, we believe that through his drawing the message on road safety would go far,” he stated.

On his part, representative of the Puma Energy Tanzania, Ambokege Minga, said the award giving ceremony was concluding this year’s project for road safety education among students countrywide implemented by the company in collaboration with Non-governmental organization called, ‘AMEND’.

The project is part of awareness campaign on road safety which started nine years ago whereby over 100 schools and 110,000 pupils have been reached out.

The project has been implemented in the regions of Dar-es-salaam, Geita, Ruvuma, Dodoma, visiwani Zanziba,Kilimanjaro and Mwanza.
