Africa-PressTanzania. NEWLY appointed Regional Commissioners (RCs) and Administrative Secretaries (RASs) will next week begin leadership induction training programme in Dodoma to enhance their potential to deliver and ensure they follow ethical leadership principles.

The Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), Mohamed Mchengerwa said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the induction course which will begin in Dodoma next week follows President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives that all government leaders must undergo leadership education programme.

“Induction courses are for all public leaders… they should understand their responsibilities, beware of their boundaries and follow ethical leadership principles,” the minister told reporters shortly after inaugurating the new board of directors for Uongozi Institute.

The leaders will learn about ethical leadership principles and sharpen their skills and knowledge in promoting national development agenda, he said.

He said ministers and permanent secretaries would follow in the training programme to be run by Uongozi Institute.

The new board of directors of Uongozi Institute comprises of DrStergomena Lawrence Tax, the outgoing Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as the chairperson, and DrLaureanNdumbaro, the Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office –Public Service Management and Good Governance, as the vice-chairperson.

Others are Ambassador Riita Swan, Prof. PeninaMlama, Lina Soiri, David Walker, Suzan Mlawi, DrHamisMwinyimvua and Prof. SamwelWangwe.

Speaking before the inauguration of the board, the minister congratulated the previous board for a job well done in steering the institution to great success in a relatively short period of time

He said under their leadership, the institute developed and delivered over 180 leadership courses to over 7,000 leaders working in public, private, and civil society organizations in Tanzania and other African countries.

“The previous board of directors laid the foundation for the Institute to prosper. This is what good leadership is all about. As we congratulate the new directors for their well-deserved appointment, we thank the past directors for a job well done and for serving their tenure with integrity,” he said.

He said the government understands that the new board had what it takes to move Uongozi Institute forward and help to nurture and prepare leaders to drive the development agenda in Africa.
