Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Rural Energy Agency (REA) has successfully extended electricity services to 284 out of 330 sub-villages in Arumeru municipality, located in Arusha Region.

This achievement is part of the Government’s broader efforts to ensure universal access to energy across the country.

The announcement was made today, June 3, 2025, in Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, while responding to a question from Arumeru East MP, Dr. John Pallangyo. The MP had inquired when the Government would complete the extension of REA electricity to the remaining 37 sub-villages still without power.

“Mr. Speaker, out of the remaining sub-villages, 17 are currently under implementation through the Densification Project Phase IIB and the Electricity Supply to Sub-villages Project Phase IIA (HEP IIA). Additionally, tenders have been announced to secure contractors for the remaining 29 sub-villages under Phase IIB of the HEP project,” Kapinga explained.

She noted that once these projects are completed, all sub-villages in Arumeru East will be connected to electricity a move expected to spur social and economic development in the area.

Responding to a follow-up question by Dr. Pallangyo regarding sub-wards in Arumeru East that source their water from the Arumeru Mountain Forest water that contains high fluoride levels Kapinga said the Government has allocated funds in the upcoming fiscal year to supply reliable electricity to Seneto Sub village in Leguruki Ward. The power supply will support Kweka Company’s initiative to install a water purification system for fluoride treatment.

In addition, in response to a question from Moshi Rural MP, Prof. Patrick Alois Ndakidemi, about when the Government will bring electricity to Orera Sub-village in Mweka Village, Kapinga confirmed that Orera is included in the contractor’s implementation list for rural electrification in 15 sub-villages per constituency in Moshi Rural.

These developments reflect the Government’s strong commitment to expanding electricity access, particularly in rural areas, to drive progress in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and small-scale industries.
