Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Rural Energy Board (REB) has ordered contractors implementing rural electrification projects across the country to adhere to the performance agreements reached between the two parties.
REB Chairman Advocate Julius Kalolo issued the directives while addressing contractors implementing the projects in Tabora region, this week.
The meeting was part of the board’s tour of the region to review progress of the implementation of the projects.
Advocate Kalolo made the remarks after receiving a report on the implementation of relevant projects which noted that some contractors were behind completion schedule which was contrary to their agreements.
He said that, the government would never tolerate any poor contractor who impedes the projects and deprives citizens of the opportunity to improve their lives due to lack of electricity.
“The act of obstruction by delaying the project or in any other way is economic sabotage. Please understand the government will not accept it so we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who goes against the agreement,” he stressed.
Speaking in separate occasion, Board Member Oswald Urassa and the Director General of the Rural Energy Agency (REA), Engineer Amos Maganga issued a warning to contractors who fail to respect the government which manage the projects.
In another development, the board of directors visited various areas in the region where the implementation of power projects is underway and talked to village and sub-village leaders to hear their views.
Commenting to the Board, Chairman of Igalula Village in Uyui District, Athumani Ramadhani said the people in the area had received the project with joy and hope.
“Citizens have embarked on various development projects including grinding machines. We are also grateful that the electricity is reliable.
My request to the government is that all citizens be provided with this energy,” he said.
For his part, the Chairman of Kigwa Village in Uyui District, Hussein Maganga thanked the government for designing rural electrification projects and explained that it has been of great benefits to the people as it has contributed to improving their lives.
The Rural Energy Board continues its visits to various regions in the country to review the progress of the implementation of rural electrification projects.
The board, in Mwanza region on September 6 this year, directed the contractor Sagemcom, who is implementing the Part II A Completion Project, to complete the work on time otherwise action will be taken to terminate his contract.
