Africa-Press – Tanzania. Retail prices of petrol and diesel imported through Dar es Salaam port have decreased by 187/- and 284/- per litre respectively.

According to the new fuel cap prices published on Tuesday evening by Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) retail price of kerosine imported through the port has dropped by 169/- per litre compared the prices that were published on March 1, 2023.

The regulator says for Northern regions namely Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara, retail prices of petrol and diesel for April 2023 have decreased by TZS 158/litre and TZS 231/litre, respectively compared to the prices that were published on 1 st March 2023.

“Moreover, due to depletion of kerosene at Tanga storage terminal, Petrol Station Operators in the Northern regions are advised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam. Therefore, the retail prices of kerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the product received through Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to the respective regions,” the statement says.

It further said, for Southern regions; Mtwara, Lindi, and Ruvuma, retail prices of petrol and diesel for April 2023 decreased by TZS 220/litre and TZS 176/litre, respectively compared to the prices that were published on 1 st March 2023.

Due to the drop of prices of the fuel, petroleum and diesel will be sold at 2,781/- and 2,847/- per litre respectively.

“Due to unavailability of kerosene at Mtwara storage terminals, Petrol Station Operators in the Southern regions are advised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam. Therefore, the retail prices of kerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the product received through Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to the respective regions,” the regulator advises.

EWURA insists that it shall continue to encourage competition in the sector by making available petroleum products pricing information including cap prices and adds: “This information on prices is intended to enable stakeholders to make informed decisions on petroleum prices at any particular time.”
