Africa-Press – Tanzania. RUKWA and Katavi regional authorities have announced several measures in efforts to prevent the spread of Covid -19 pandemic in their respective areas.
The announcements were issued by Rukwa Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Joseph Mkirikiti and Katavi Regional Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Kisukari Sabuni shortly after the Covid 19 vaccination exercises held in both regions.
In Rukwa, the Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Mkirikiti has banned funeral gathering as well as unnecessary public gatherings being among several measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
“Burial gatherings are attended by large number of mourners and they are taking long hours without observing precautionary measures against the spread of deadly viral pandemic…..” added the RC.
Equally Mr Mkirikiti directed the Regional Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Boniface Kasululu to make sure all people who seek medical services in any facility to wear face masks.
“I have been witnessing citizens entering health facilities without wearing face masks. I’m not happy with this behavior,’ he observed. I am directing the RMO to make sure all health facilities post instructions which require all people to wear face masks,” the RC said.
He also directed the Regional Police Commander (RPC) Mr William Mwampaghale to ban all food vendors from selling their commodities inside public transport vehicles, including buses.
“I’m directing Sumbawanga Municipal Council Director, Mr Mtalitinya to ensure civil servants actively participate in physical exercises as per set official timetable” emphasised the RC.
Mr Mkirikiti appealed to Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers in vaccination centres, assuring them that vaccine is safe.
In Katavi , Regional Medical Officer RMO,Sabuni has appealed to citizens to refrain from unnecessary public gatherings, encouraging them to continue adhering to all Covid 19 precautionary measures as per the medical experts instructions.
He encouraged Tanzanians to turn in large numbers to vaccinate against Covid 19 infections, urging them to listen to heath personnel and other experts.
Both, Rukwa and Katavi Regional Commissioners, Mr Mkirikiti and Ms Mwanamvua Mrindoko were the first to receive vaccines on Wednesday this week.
