Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE third accused person in former Hai District Commissioner Lengai Ole Sabaya’s armed robbery case was yesterday forced to produce his academic transcripts as a testimony of his proper names.
Daniel Mbura availed his academic papers before Arusha Resident Magistrate’s Court after he initially faulted the charge sheet over his proper identification.
Adducing his defence in the criminal case number 105, 2021 yesterday, Mbura alleged that the prosecution erred in his proper names, compelling him to produce the academic transcripts.
The accused identified himself as Daniel Laurent Mbura, yet the charge sheet identified him as Daniel Gabriel Mbura.
He equally took issue with his age, which according to the charge sheet reads as 38, while he claims to be 31.
Mbura further faulted the charge sheet for getting wrong his proper address.
The accused told the Court that he resides in Shamsi area in Arusha but the charge sheet says he lives in Boma Ng’ombe, a bustling town in Hai District.
In his defence, Mbura urged the Court to drop the case levelled against him, claiming that all the allegations had been fabricated.
Mbura began his defence after his co-accused Ole Sabaya and Sylvester Nyengu were done with their part.
The trio were in June this year, arraigned before the Arusha Resident Magistrate’s Court charged with six counts.
The charges include leading a criminal gang, armed robbery, economic sabotage, Money laundering and corruption.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan had in May this year, suspended Mr Sabaya pending investigations over some accusations.
Former Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, late Anna Mghwira, once warned the former Sambasha ward councillor over unnecessary arrests.
He would later appear on Clouds Tv 360 programme as a guest to give details on his performance as the area DC.
He also used the opportunity to vindicate some of the allegations levelled against him. The former DC deemed such allegations as “political games.”
