Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has dished out a total of 1.525bn/- for construction of health facilities in five wards in Mara region.
Some of the money provided has been collected from mobile money levies.
Mara Regional Commissioner, Ally Happy revealed the good news on Saturday at Kirumi Village, noting that 300m/- was dished out by President Samia after being informed that the construction of one of the dispensaries started eleven years ago and had stalled.
The Regional Commissioner said he decided to visit the construction site to ensure the directives issued by President Samia regarding the upgrading of the dispensary to become Bukabwa Ward Health Centre were implemented.
“In addition to 300m/- which President Samia has given to Kirumi Village, the government has already dished out some amount of money for the construction of health facilities in five wards,” he said.
Hapi named districts which have benefited from the funds collected from mobile money transactions levies as Butiama, Musoma, Serengeti and Bunda where identified wards within the respective districts has received 250m/-.
After inspecting the building the RC directed the architectural drawings of the dispensary buildings to be reviewed so as to suit the status of the facility.
He directed the labour room and maternity ward to be expanded so as to accommodate more patients.
This money should be spent based on the needs … we normally construct a new health centre at a cost of 400m/- and here you have most of the buildings.
With 300m/- that you have received is enough to have a modern health centre.
Kirumi Village Executive Officer, Violeth Kisumo said that the construction of the health facility was initiated by the villagers in 2010 and completed some of the buildings at a cost of 20m/-.
She said through the govern- ment support, they have so far spent 132.564m/- noting that the remaining amount was expected to be spent for construction of operation theatre, incinerator and toilets.
Butiama District Commissioner Mwalimu Moses Kaegele called upon villagers to continue volunteering in development activities.
