Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has fired the Accountant General, Francis Mwakapalila, appointing Leonard John Mkude to the post, just a month after receiving an audit report into the Central Bank of Tanzania.
A statement from the Director of Presidential Communications detailed that Mkude took over the position on August 5th and he assumes the position from the Central Bank where he Managed the Bank’s Budget.
“Mwakapalila will be assigned other duties,” the statement read in parts without giving further details.
President Samia tasked the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) Charles Kichere to conduct a special audit into the central bank’s accounts between January and March this year. The report submitted on July 1 unearthed the unthinkable among key state institutions such as the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and the National Roads Agency (Tanroads) that had made double payments over the same activity.
Also, the President appointed Athumani Mbuttuka to be Government’s Internal Auditor General. Mbuttuka was a Treasury Registrar (TR) and according to the new appointments, Mgonya Benedict is the new TR.
The President also named Frank Mugeta Nyabundege, the new Executive Director at the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB). Nyabundege, according to a State House statement was Director General at the Lake Oil Tanzania Limited.
Meanwhile, President Samia appointed Casmir Kyuki to Chair the UTT Asset Management and Investor Services (UTT AMIS) Board.
