Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has said the government will continue to honour the late President John Magufuli by managing and implementing ideas and projects he initiated in the country.

The Head of State made the statement on Sunday on her X (formerly Twitter) platform, while marking three years since the death of Dr Magufuli.

“On this day, three years ago, the former President Dr John Pombe Magufuli passed away, let’s continue to pray to God for him to rest in peace, “Samia wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“As all phases did, the sixth phase government will continue to honour the late Dr John Pombe Magufuli for managing and developing all the good things he started,” she added.

President Magufuli died on March 17, 2021 and was buried in his Chato ancestral home in Geita Region on March 26, 2021.

Following Dr Magufuli’s death, the then Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn in as Tanzania’s first female President and continuing with his legacy. In a related development, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Doto Biteko represented Dr Samia in the special holy mass of the late Dr Magufuli held at Perish of Mount Yohana Maria Muzeyi Catholic Church in Chato District, Geita Region yesterday.

Speaking during the mass, Dr Biteko said that Dr Samia leading the government will continue to honour the late Dr Magufuli by implementing various projects he initiated.

“Dr Samia while leading the government will continue to remember late Dr Magufuli as President of fifth-phase government and a leader who laid various foundations that the sixth-phase government now continues to implement,” Dr Biteko said.

Elaborating, he cited various schemes that were started by the fifth-phase government under the leadership of the late President Magufuli and now in continuation as including Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Power Project (JNHPP) which has currently started to provide 235 megawatts.

The list included the implementation of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Project from Dar es Salaam that is now in inaugural trials and the construction of the large Kigongo-Busisi Bridge in Mwanza Region which has reached 80 per cent. Equally, Dr Biteko assured Tanzanians that ideas initiated by the late Magufuli will be implemented as he desired, adding: “the late Magufuli is famous in the world as a charismatic leader who addressed the citizens’ problems, listened to them, fought against negligence and corruption and as well encouraged accountability in the government… I want to assure you that the sixth -phase government is pushing all these for Tanzanians.” Likewise, he congratulated Dr Magufuli’s widow, Mama Janet Magufuli for continuing to stand as the mainstay of the family.

In response, the late Dr Magufuli’s widow, Mama Janeth thanked President Dr Sami for being with the family since the death of the fifth Head of State, saying: “This is a symbol of love for the family.” Chato Constituency Member of Parliament, Dr Medard Kalemani thanked the President Dr Samia for continuing to take care of Chato District by constantly visiting them and continuing to provide funds for the implementation of various projects including water, schools, hospitals and infrastructure there.

He also thanked Dr Samia for honouring the late Dr Magufuli in various ways including building the Magufuli Museum in Chato District, which will make his history and be known in and outside the country.

Dr Magufuli’s holy mass was attended by various leaders including Geita Regional Commissioner, Martine Shigella, Minister of Works, Mr Innocent Bashungwa and Chato MP, Dr Medard Kalemani.
