Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has, today, 10 August, 2025, led the nation in paying final respects to the former Speaker of the National Assembly, Job Yustino Ndugai, in an emotional farewell ceremony held in Dodoma.
Speaking during the event, President Samia praised Ndugai’s dedication to public service, describing him as a committed leader who served the country with integrity, humility, and an unwavering sense of duty.
She highlighted his years of contribution to the Tanzanian Parliament, both as a legislator and later as Speaker, noting that his leadership strengthened the legislative arm of government and upheld democratic values.
“Ndugai devoted his life to the service of this nation. His steadfastness in safeguarding parliamentary procedures and ensuring the voice of the people was heard will remain in our history,” President Samia said, adding that his passing was a great loss not only to his family but to the entire country.
The Head of State extended condolences to Ndugai’s family, friends, and colleagues, assuring them that the government and people of Tanzania stood with them during this difficult time. She called upon Tanzanians to honour his legacy by upholding unity, discipline, and commitment to the nation’s progress.
The last respects occasion also attended by senior government officials, members of Parliament, political leaders, and hundreds of mourners who came to pay their last respects to the late Speaker.
Ndugai, who served as Speaker from 2015 to 2022, is remembered for his firm leadership style and deep understanding of parliamentary affairs.
His body will be laid to rest in his home village in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region, in a burial service expected to draw mourners from across the nation.
