Samia: “Our well-stocked library is burnt”

Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has described Ali Hassan Mwinyi’s death as similar to a well-stocked Library that has been burnt.

Speaking during the state funeral of the fallen hero at New Amaan Sports Complex in Zanzibar on Saturday, the Head of State said that the late Mwinyi worked hard for the development of the country, a leaf that should be borrowed by public leaders.

“I remember an African proverb that says ‘when an elder dies, the library is burnt’ meaning that whatever an elder possesses, when he dies, it’s like a burnt library as everything is lost,” Samia told multitude at the well attended event.

She adds: “They also say a person’s CV is inheritable, otherwise, I could have requested Dr. Hussein to let me inherit his (Mwinyi) CV but unfortunately, it cannot happen.

“You will agree with me that our well stocked Library has been burnt, he was a mobile Library which had books of loyalty, economic transformation, courage, humble and God fearing,” says Samia.

Also, President Samia remarks that there are a lot to be learnt from the late Mwinyi as he is the first person to serve as President for Zanzibar and the United Republic of Tanzania government.

“Despite encountering political and economic hardships, the late Mwinyi normalized the situation which led to economic growth in Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland,” she says.

Under his tenure, she adds, the country witnessed crucial socio-economic and political reforms which pave the way for market liberalization and free trade.
