Africa-Press – Tanzania. PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed her gratitude to the Angolan government led by President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço for its decision to support the Tanzanian candidate, Professor Mohammed Janabi, who is vying for the Regional Director’s position for Africa in the World Health Organization (WHO).
Professor Janabi, who hails from Tanzania, is vying for the position following the death of the former WHO Africa Regional Director, Dr. Faustine Ndugulile, in November 2025. The election to fill the vacant position is expected to take place soon.
Speaking in Angola today, alongside President Lourenço, President Samia said: “I thank the Government of Angola for showing their willingness to support our candidate for the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa, Professor Mohammed Janabi from Tanzania.”
President Samia arrived in Angola yesterday for a three-day official visit, during which she held talks with her host, President Lourenço, on various areas of bilateral cooperation.
