Samia wants public leaders to be flexible

Africa-PressTanzania. President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday urged public leaders to be flexible in addition to the use of rules, regulations and laws when discharging their responsibilities.

“About 70 per cent of your (leaders) decision must be guided by the law. The remaining 30 per cent should be your heart,” President Samia told a gathering at the statehouse in Chamwino.

The delegates were attending the swearing in ceremony for regional administrative secretaries she appointed last week.“But again,” she continued “not that you be flexible on fraud.”

The remarks from the president’s directive to leaders to be flexible—comes following reports that some leaders have been welcoming bureaucracies in the name of abiding by the laws thus discouraging especially investors to spearhead the development agenda.

She wants Regional Commissioners and the Regional Administrative Secretaries to be friendly to investors willing to invest in their regions.

“The law shouldn’t be a means of blocking development. You should be flexible on matters with mutual benefits to the country,” the president insisted.

Meanwhile, President Samia asked the newly appointed Regional Administrative Secretaries to ensure they work effectively by maintaining respect to both their leaders and the society.

“Collaborate and respect each other, your biggest jobs is to advice your leaders and help them. Maintain respect integrity, good performance, honesty but humility for the people. Not just for your bosses but the people as well,” she added.
