Africa-PressTanzania. NATIONAL Under-17 ‘Serengeti Boys’ has failed to restore the country’s pride after suffering a 3-1 loss to Uganda Cubs in CECAFA qualifiers final match at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.

Uganda becomes the CECAFA U-17 champ a few days after clinching the U-20 title in Arusha. Serengeti Boys who looked relaxed, conceded all goals due to defensive blunders.

Serengeti Boys dominated the midfield but failed to create clear chances that would award them an opening goal. The first half was completed with goalless draw.

The Cubs came in the second half better than Serengeti which enabled them pocket their opener in the 64th minute through Irinimbabazi Ivan who completed a set piece created by Mulema Vincent.

It did not take too long for cubs to collect their second goal; this time it was Mutyaba Travis at 81st minute after he skillfully demolished the defence and he strike a low shot which found the back of the net.

Tanzanian’s hope were revived through an own goal by Mulema Vincent in the 88th minute.

In a blink of an eye the referee called for a penalty after Omary Yahya of Tanzania fouled Mutyaba inside the penalt box and Cub’s skipper Ibrahim Juma completed their hefty victory.

Thus, this becomes the second consecutive qualification for Uganda to meet Tanzania in the final in this year and yet Uganda to secure victory.

Both Uganda Cubs and Serengeti Boys have qualified for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco under CECAFA ticket.
