Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA Under-20 women’s football team head coach Bakari Shime has expressed his delight in their weekend victory, insisting on sharpening his squad to ensure they win the return leg in Bujumbura.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 qualifier return leg will be staged between December 16th and 18th this year.

Shime issued the remarks shortly after their 3-2 victory over Burundi at Azam Complex, Chamazi in Dar es Salaam.

Clara Luvanga, Joyce Lema and Aisha Masaka scored goals for Tanzanite in the ninth minute, 15th and 43rd, while Estella Gakima and Noela Izakoze scored for Burundi in the 22nd and 56th minutes.

Shime noted they planned to score more goals despite the win, but after conceding goals in the first and second half, it took off his charges’ confidence.

“We planned to score more goals, but things did not go as planned, especially after allowing Burundi to score two goals; we have work to do, there are two weeks for preparation and set ourselves up to do well,” he said.

Tanzanite looks forward to sealing a victory in the return leg, enabling Tanzania to advance in the fourth round. Thus, the two nations battle for the aggregate winner who will qualify to that stage.

To reach this stage, Tanzania eliminated Eritrea 5-0. After that, they won 3-0 in the first leg in Asmara before finishing them off with a 2-0 win in Dar es Salaam.

For Burundi, they eliminated Namibia also 5-0 on aggregate. They won the first leg 3-0 in Bujumbura before winning 2-0 in the second leg in Windhoek.

Other than the Tanzanite encounter, two other matches took place on Saturday in the first leg of the third qualifying round for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022.

Zambia and Ghana ended with a goalless draw at the Nkoloma Stadium, while Senegal notched crucial 3-2 home.

The return leg match is scheduled for December 18th at the Accra Sports Stadium will be decisive for both teams.
