Africa-Press – Tanzania. The CECAFA zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers begin showdown today with the Tanzanian envoys Simba Queens testing Burundi PVP at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Simba Queens are placed in Group A together with PVP, FAD FC of Djibouti. While New Generations of Zanzibar are placed in Group B together with the Kenyan envoys Vihiga Queens, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan.
This tournament will reach its climax on September 9th this year.
The winners from the CECAFA qualifiers will join the other seven zonal winners to play in the 2021 Total Energies Women’s Champions League to be held in Egypt.
Simba Queens sealed a chance to the tournament after winning the Mainland Women’s Premier League last season.
On August 25th this month, the Simba Queens squad left for Kenya with 22 players ready to participate in the tournament.
The team is currently under Coach Hababu Ally, who replaced Musa Hassan Mgosi, now assigned to train the men’s youth squad.
The full squad travelled to Kenya include goalkeepers Gelwa Lugomba, Janeth Simba, Zubeda Mgunda while defenders are Dotto Evarist, Fatuma Issa, Julitha Singano, Maimuna Kaimu, Sylvia Thomas, Violeth Nicholaus, Violeth Thadeo and Good Richard.
The midfielders are Danai Bhobho, Jackline Albert, Joelle Bukuru, Kadosho Shabani, Koku Ally, Zena Khamis; and the strikers are Aisha Juma, Asha Juma, Flaviana Mawete, Ruth Kipoyi, and Shelder Boniface
