Africa-Press – Tanzania. REIGNING champions Simba will regroup this weekend to officially begin preparations for the 2021/22 Premier League season which pundits have described it as a tough one.
Immediately after winning their Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) title, Simba gave their players and technical bench members a brief break before linking up for the busy next season’s schedule.
This made the Msimbazi Street Reds not to be part of the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup competition who said timing of the contest was not friendly to them hence opted not to compete.
Confirming this on Friday was the club’s Acting Information Officer Ezekiel Kamwaga who also narrated that the team’s Head Coach Didier Gomes will be landing in the country any moment from now.
“We hope that by Sunday, all team members will be in camp ready to begin preparations for the next season and the good thing is that most foreign based players have already began returning in the country.
“For now, there are no indicators to affect the scheduled plan as such, on Sunday, training sessions will resume as planned,” Kamwaga who replaced Haji Manara as Simba Information Officer said.
Again, Kamwaga disclosed that they are not yet done with signing of new players such that if everything goes according to plan, they will parade another player this weekend.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the registration committee of our club for the good job they are doing to bring good players capable to play for the big club,” he said.
He then pointed out that Simba have big plans in the upcoming season to do well in the CAF Champions League by reaching beyond the quarter finals phase.
“Our members and fans should always be aware that people tasked to run the club have big dreams they want to achieve as such, they need to continue showing support to their beloved team,” he said.
Moreover, Kamwaga narrated that this month, Simba as usual have a big event dedicated to their fans as such, they should remain committed to their team since everything is moving on well.
Until now, the Msimbazi Street based club have introduced only two players signed in the underway transfer window who are Peter Banda and Yusuph Mhilu.
However, Simba have one more title the Community Shield to defend to accomplish their mission of retaining three titles and they will have to defeat their traditional rivals Young Africans on September 25th at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam to achieve that goal.
According to the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB), normal flow of the next season’s top flight league is slated on September 29th.
