Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Removal of 46 out of 64 trade barriers between Tanzania and Kenya propelled the growth of trade volume between the two East African Community (EAC) member states to 1.1 trillion.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan revealed on Friday at the State House in Dar es Salaam joint press briefing with her Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta that transaction rose from 885 bn/- a year earlier to 1.1trn/-.
Describing more on the area, Samia said this year Kenya has imported commodities three times more compared to last year.
“We had 64 trade barriers when we met …using our names Uhuru; now there is free Trade in Kenya or Tanzania and my name [Suluhu] Solution; We will find solutions to the challenges facing us,” she said.
On his part, President Uhuru thanked the existing brotherhood relationship between Kenya and Tanzania, saying that the latter has benefited more from the recently trade barriers removal.
The two Heads of State agreed to team up in different areas varying from energy to tourism sectors.
