Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE National Cricket Team has completed training in Kenya, where they played five friendly matches against Coast Mombasa and won all five.
According to Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), the five games aimed to drill the team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa qualifier games. The pathway event is towards the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
In the friendly encounters in Mombasa, Tanzania won by eight wickets in the first encounter. It was a great start for the boys, who showed great prowess in their bowling and fielding by restricting Coast Mombasa to 119 runs only in the first inning.
Tanzania opted to field and managed to chase the target within 13 overs in a campaign spearheaded by Abhik Patwa, and Ivan Ismail At the end of the encounter, Ivan Ismail was awarded the Man of the Match award as he scored 46 runs in 29 balls.
The Tanzanian side won their second outing, limiting CCA to 71 runs in the allocated 20 overs and chasing down the target comfortably within nine overs.
Sanjay Bom was awarded the Man of the Match award for his excellent bowling. In the third game, Tanzania finally got a chance to bat first and made the most of the opportunity skipper Abhik Patwa came to score a commanding 75 runs in just 45 balls. His score contributed to 180 runs in 20 overs.
Once again, exceptional bowling in defence helped the team win the game, with CCA finishing on 112 runs chasing 181. Abhik was awarded the Man of the Match for his entertaining innings.
Once again, in the fourth match, the Tanzanian side made the most by winning the toss, electing to bat first, and putting down a good score on the board.
Coast Mombasa registered 114 runs in 20 overs. Tanzania came in second to bat and registered 173 runs in 20 overs, thus picking 59 runs victory. Jitin Pratap Singh was rightfully earning the Man of the Match for his scintillating batting display.
He scored 61 runs in 38 balls. The final game proved to be the most entertaining game of the tournament, where both teams scored big.
Tanzania successfully clinched the 5-0 victory in the series by scoring big again, with Jitin Pratap Singh and Riziki Kiseto getting half-centuries.
However, the bowling display and Man of the match performance by Kassimu Nassoro proved a key to the victory as CCA had put their best effort in their last game, chasing a mammoth total.
The qualification event will begin next month. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) to host the Sub-regional and Regional finals for the African region.
The two sub-regional tournaments and the Africa regional finals will take place at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium and Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC) Kicukiro Ground from this month to next month.
In the Sub Regional Africa A Qualifier, Rwanda hosted teams from Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Seychelles, Swaziland, and Uganda from October 14th – 23rd.
Sub Regional Africa B Qualifier teams are from Botswana, Cameroon, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Tanzania from October 31st – November 08th, 2021.
The top team from both groups will advance to the Africa regional finals. After that, they will compete with Nigeria and Kenya for the lone qualification spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2022. The Regional Finals will take place from November 15th – 21st, 2021.
Nigeria and Kenya qualified for the 2019 global qualifiers and Namibia from the 2019 edition of the Africa regional finals. However, the 2021 edition will see only the winner of the final regional advance to the global qualifiers.
As a result, the number of subregional qualifiers in the previous edition of the Africa region was reduced by one. Moreover, Head Coach Steve Tikolo believes his squad is strong and ready to compete in the qualifier game.
“In the camp, we are all right; our young people are all doing well. We have been preparing for a long time, and I believe we are going to do well. So the morale and confidence are high, and we hope we will do well.”
